Recipes from the South Beach

General Impressions - South Beach Diet Review

I have decided to include two seperate books in this review because I think they go hand in hand. In the one book, you have the South Beach Diet and the other, the recipes that go along with the diet. Let's look at the actual
South Beach Diet.

The first half of the book details the science behind the diet. Most of the explanations revolve around why things you thought were healthy—-orange juice, wheat toast, carrots—-are actually evil. To avoid blood sugar surges, Agatston created a modified carbohydrate plan, recommending plenty of high-fiber foods, lean proteins, and
healthy fats, while cutting bread, rice, pastas, and fruits. Major differences from other diets include a lack of concern over portion size and a serious indifference to exercise.

A little strange since I'm a big believer in exercise while dieting. Maybe Dr. Agatston knows something I don't. Anyways, according to Dr. Agatston, feeing full while on the South Beach diet is a delightful thing. The good Doctor actually recommends deserts.

The second part of the book looks at his three-stage plan; daily diets are mixed with recipes, some of which are from
South Beach restaurant chefs. Quite delicious actually. The most restrictive period lasts just two weeks, enough time to stabilize your urges and lose a few pounds; stage two adds fruits and a handful of other carbs, while stage three is meant to last the remainder of your life, with occasional lapses for white bread or birthday cake. The recipes are varied and tasty, and you'll never feel deprived, unless you currently happen to live by bread alone.

Recipes of the South Beach are meant to enhance the actual diet by providing more recipes than the acutal diet prescribed. This is a good thing because the original diet only has so many recipes and sooner or later, you're going to get bored of them. This book has an extensive library of South Beach Recipes to keep you going for a good long time. The actual diet is sound but the recipes are not that extensive. This book is an excellent addition to the diet and will provide entertaining recipes to last.

Who's it designed for?

Beginners

Individuals looking for more recipes in the South Beach Diet

The South Beach Diet works. If you have the determination, the program will definitely work for you. The only problem
with the South Beach Diet is that sooner or later, you're going to get bored with the recipes. South Beach Diet Recipes is a great addition to the actual diet.

What's in it?

The South Beach Diet is based on the low carb methodology of dieting. It's important to note that the South Beach Diet
emphasizes the good fats in order to help with general health and aid long-term weight loss by fighting insulin resistance. The program does not count carbs but uses the glycemic index as the guide.

According to Dr. Agatston, no two carbs will register the same on the glycemic index. Those carbs that register high on the GI are to be avoided and those that are low can actually be used in a weight loss program. If you're not familiar with the glycemic index, it is the measurement at
the rate carbs are converted into blood sugar by the body and metabolized as energy.

Carbohydrates that are converted quickly such as simple sugars and sucrose provide short term energy and usually have a high GI rating. Complex carbohydrates are converted at a much slower rate and provide long term energy and therefore have a low GI rating.

South Beach Diet Recipes have a ton of recipes that will keep you going for a long time. There are over 125 pages of
recipes.

Overall - South Beach Diet Review

I like the fact that is uses the glycemic index as oppossed to lumping all carbs under the heading of "evil". The recipes in South Beach Diet are simply fantastic and there is enough to keep you going for the duration of the diet.
